Title: Is email dying?
Topic: RSS

An article in Editor and Publisher summarizes an argument by Chris Pirillo who wrote a book about publishing via email, and augments that argument with other musings, adding up to the idea that email as a communication medium for content publishers is being replaced by RSS, which would seem to be spam and virus free. Title: Feed On Feed
Topic: RSS

A server side aggregator written in php and mysql. This nice little script installs easily and is easy to use.

Title: Validation script
Topic: RSS

RSS Validator is a script that will check the conformity of your rss files, to make sure that the xml conforms to the rss standard. Might prove useful if I ever figure out how the standard works and how to tweak my mysql lables to parrse for rss.

Title: Repurposing example or evidence of plagiarism
Topic: RSS

Wow, I just found content identical to my last post about moreover news feeds (link). I've also visited Moreover and it is a pay for service. So I don't know if these news feeds are news sucks or feeds. I mean, is this copyrite infringement to get moreover feeds and is it copy right infringement to have the same script replicated by others. I'm getting the impression that a lot of "webmasters" buy the latest php book or whatever, hack the scripts and then make tutorials of their own and or scritps and then use them to drive traffic. And perhaps others just snag the code from elsewhere.

Morover's list of rss urls.

Title: Newsfeeds from Moreover
Topic: RSS

I'm only just getting into this, so I'm vague about it all (some history here). But Beginnersphp has a nice script to run newsfeeds from Morover's news service. I thought Moreover was pay service, so I have to look into this more. Anyway, the sciript is running on rhetcomp as moreover.php. Beginnersphp also offers a list of news feed urls. The script that runs this is also available for download from Beginnersphp. They also have building counters tutorial I plan to look at. To include it on your page, use the standard php include code

<?

include("moreover.php");
?>

Read the tutorial and get the script at Beginners.php.

Anyway, Rich Site Summary is a technique for providing XML encoded data. The blogosphere is full of this stuff these days. Most Radiouserland sites offer it as an opt in thing for readers, like newsletters. The idea is you get quick updates on breaking news. Kind of pretentious in nearly all cases. Interrupting someone with an email that says, hey new pic of my dog is pretty crass.
